“The Mercury Prize for books, because it celebrates writers whom keen readers (and literary editors) might know about, and introduces some whom we probably don’t.”
Katy Guest, The Independent on Sunday
Fiction Uncovered is a promotion which celebrates our best British fiction writers. The promotion is supported by Arts Council England and funded by the National Lottery.¬† In 2013, retailers including Kobo, Waterstone’s, Foyles, iBookstore, Amazon and Nudge will be supporting the promotion, as well as many independent retailers around the UK working with the Booksellers Association. We also work in partnership with The Reading Agency to reach libraries and reading groups, and with Lovereading UK to reach dedicated readers. You can see a full list of the 2012 Fiction Uncovered partners here.
Fiction Uncovered¬†creates the opportunity for eight British fiction writers (novels, short stories, graphic novels) to be part of a major promotion supported by retailers, and a major publicity and marketing campaign. The eight titles for this year’s Fiction Uncovered 2013 will be selected by a judging panel chaired by Louise Doughty.
The eight titles selected for Fiction Uncovered 2013 will be announced on 16th May 2013. You can find out more about the Fiction Uncovered titles selected in 2012 here.
Fiction Uncovered also hosts a community website here at www.fictionuncovered.co.uk which offers these eight selected writers Рand an even broader group of writers through recommendation and endorsement Рa chance to reach readers. The website also encourages contributors to uncover lost or forgotten fiction as well as new fiction.
Publishers can read more about the submissions process here.
The Fiction Uncovered promotion came about after a series of discussions between Arts Council England, a group of publishers, literary agents and other book professionals.
