The eight titles for the annual Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize will be selected by a judging panel chaired by novelist Matt Haig. The 2014 judging panel will include Literary Editor of the Independent Arifa Akbar; Online Content and Social Media manager at Waterstones Greg Eden; author, journalist and publisher Sam Jordison and Julia Wharton, Jerwood Charitable Foundation Trustee.

Matt Haig is a bestselling novelist. His works include The Humans, The Radleys and The Last Family in England, which is now being made into a film by Brad Pitt’s production company. His works have been translated into 29 languages. He also writes award-winning novels for children.

Arifa Akbar is literary editor of The Independent and i newspapers. She has worked at The Independent since 2001 as a news reporter and arts correspondent before joining the books desk in 2009. She was a judge for the Orwell Prize for books, 2013

Greg Eden has worked in and around the publishing and bookselling industry for twenty-five years, variously as a marketing copywriter, book buyer, range manager, freelance book reviewer and magazine writer. With particular interests in the fields of American and Scottish contemporary fiction, and natural history writing, he currently works as online content and social media manager at Waterstones Head Office in London.

Sam Jordison is an author, journalist and publisher. He writes about books for The Guardian where he also runs an online book club called the Reading Group. He has written a number of books of his own, including the best selling Crap Towns series. He is also a co-director of Galley Beggar Press, publishers of the award winning A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride. Among other things. He lives in Norwich.

Julia Wharton is a trustee of the Jerwood Charitable Foundation. She is a solicitor and a director of Brandcast Media, a leading digital and video media agency. Julia also sits on the council of The Theatre, Chipping Norton.
